4 day weekend so good time to get some hiking, make progress with the HW1 Albstieg and test out some upgrades to Hubi.

Day 1 we traveled back to Bopfingen and started a short hike to Hülen. Lovely name. It was hot but we attacked the short hike well. Got to see some stones…

Was right across from an ancient Jewish cemetery. The stones were ancient, looked like a scary graveyard from a video game or bad movie. Decided it’s not classy to photograph ancient Jewish cemeteries in Germany…

Then a short downhill walk to a train, an argument with an employee at the gas station who when doesn’t understand immediately replies with no. Then a train ride back to Bopfingen, a drive out to a great camping spot next to a wild hunters restaurant, some food, heat delirious sleep, then day 2!

Day 2 we did a little backwards from Aalen Untercocken back to Hülen.

So after a long day 2, we parked at the Lines Therme in Aalen. Surprisingly great free spot for campervans, but a lot of youth with insanely expensive BMWs all trying to do burnouts (or throw a rod) in the parking lot.
Funny part is after a day of intense heat and sweating, we decide to go in the Therme. First stop, Roman Dampfbad sauna. Let’s sweat some more! Next, the 40+ degree swimming area, another sauna, another super hot swim, another sauna… what were we thinking? No cold water at all, was nice to shower though.
Of course no pictures from the Therme, nothing you want to see anyways, only what you wish you could un-see…
Day 3 death March was intense out till Heubach. Lots of wide open walking with no shade in blistering heat.

Then some ice cream and a taxi ride back home. American diner then off to a nice church to camp for the night. Got to try out having both the sliding door and back door open, no mosquitos or bugs came in, it’s a good sign we are getting ready for Sweden!

The final day… we wanted to make it easy. 8km and a taxi back. Well, the 8km was easy, a stop at a biker bar Ställe Motorradtreffpunkt which had a large variety of vegan dishes, a few Radler… and no taxi. No one wanted to serve us. No one wanted to make money. So our easy day just became 16km it the blasting heat. The hike back we took a different route, no shade of course. Got home an played basketball. Couldn’t jump a centimeter.
More progress made on the HW1! The majority of 6 Etappen out of 16. Soon we will be hiking in our back yard.
