The Thing and Mining

Small adjustments in plans often lead to greater adventures. Instead of a wild animal safari park (whatever that is in Sweden), we went to a Viking site instead.

Panoramic view of it all from above.

Morning at the camp was great. The ducks came by to say hi and poop all over our turf.

Quack quack quack poop.

We had an animal park as the morning agenda, which was definitely closed. A quick agenda change and we are at Anundshög, a Viking relic of some sorts.

Freya as leader. Preparing for the next Thing.

The signs were not helpful all containing weasel words and maybe it could have been possibly a chance of usually something. So we let our imagination lead us.

There was the big stone.
And the so called “boats” where Freya stood on the middle rock and made a babble.
And each stone was protected by ants.

And most importantly the place had a great cafe for some afternoon fika.

Swedish Mines

With no plans on where to go, we end up at Pershyttan outside of Nora, definitely one of the best stops yet.

It’s kind of the center town now a ghost town where a lot of the iron was mined for a very long time. Had a great info point with mining town theme playground.

Climbing up an old mine hill. All the ground was sparkly.
Maybe there is some gold in that sandbox.

Busted out the Kraxe for a walk to check out a bunch more mines.

Mine entrance.
Mine water (is really red)
Maybe not the best picture but this mine hole went insanely deep. Didn’t see the bottom.

In the evening went to the local town where they were celebrating last day of school which is kind of a big thing here I guess.

So we had some ice cream.
Checked out some trains
And some locomotives
Then had a 10€ beer.
The modern (but not civilized) Viking youth also present in large numbers.

Had a great sleep back at the mines. Great place to remember, worth a stop in the future as well.

Next stop, Karlstad.
