Istria and House of Pandza

I probably spelled his name wrong… shout out to Danijel and many thanks!

The second day of our tour had us already in Ljubljana and on our way to Croatia. After crossing the border I wanted to hug the Istrian coast from Umag all the way to Pula, but by Porec I gave up and made a straight shot for Rovinj, our first Croatian town. I wish I had known to stop in Kringa, home of Jure Grando, worlds first vampire! Rumor has it he also tried out as Power Forward for the Sacramento Kings.

Boats, esplanade, restaurants and ice cream. Where in the Mediterranean have I lived this before?

Cute town. Good food. Friendly people. Easy parking. What more could you want?

After that, we head down to Danijel’s house near Pula. Big thanks and Danijel for having us. Surprisingly, we have no pictures of him, or his house! Ha!

The evening he gave us a tour of Pula, cool stuff! The city had a mix of ancient Roman, Venetian and Austria-Hungarian architecture. Fascinating!

Roman gate entrance
Ancient Roman next to Venetian. No Bau-Auftrag needed and those things still stand proud.
And here they built a Colosseum!

So I think Ancient Greek and Roman buildings are really cool, and this town must be something if they built a colosseum here. Now I don’t have to visit Rome! Great!

They do concerts here. And daytime gladiator combat.

After that, and 3 hour late of wandering for a restaurant, (was back by the gate) and good times good fun and good company.

Cheers on Markus (with a K or C?) and much love on Danijel for the place, tour, food, booze, breakfast and all.

Can’t wait for the basketball vacation in Pula 2023! Sign up now!
